Flight to Crete Information - charter / scheduled flights from the UK

Welcome to our Crete Flights section. Here you can find information on a range of airlines, carriers and holiday companies who can offer flights to Crete, ideal for your own self-assembled holiday. Whilst most holidays companies are also able to offer direct 'flight only' airplane seats during the summer season, allowing you to organise your own accommodation, scheduled flights are the only option from UK airports in the winter. Most will involve at least one change in Athens and prices, on the whole, will work out more expensive than during the summer months.

UK to Athens scheduled flights

Scheduled routes that we, at makeITcrete.com, have booked in the past include flying with Air France to Athens via Paris Charles de Gaulle. We have also flown with other major airlines including Alitalia to Athens via Milan Malpensa, British Airways to Athens via Paris Charles de Gaulle, KLM to Athens via Amsterdam Schipol, Olympic to Athens direct. Tickets have fallen within the £125 to £225 (exc taxes) price bracket for Manchester-Athens return during 2002-2005 although this has sometimes required flexibility in flight dates.

Athens to Crete scheduled flights

From Athens numerous flights depart for Crete with Aegean and Olympic. Tickets for these can be booked in advance or at the appropriate ticket desk in the check-in hall. This is above the arrivals section at Eleftheria Venizelous (Athens airport) and you will have to ascend via the escalators or stairs. Although tickets are normally readily available for the next scheduled flight on both airlines seats at peak times should be ensured beforehand. Elections and public holidays (especially Easter) tend to see great movements of people from the capital to outlying islands, including Crete. Flights should normally work out at less than £70 each way

Worried about changes? Two changes of flights are perfectly possible within a day and a sample itinerary may be for - 6 am (local time) depart UK. arr 8 am (local time - 1 hr ahead of UK) Paris. 10am depart Paris. Arrive Athens 2.25 (local time - 2 hrs ahead of UK). Depart Athens 4pm. arrive Heraklion 4.40pm. Taxi transfer to hotel - variable on location. Example times : Heraklion 10 mins, Agios Nikolaos 50 mins, Elounda 1 hr, Rethymnon 1 hr. Visitors to Chania or further west would be better served flying from Athens into Chania airport

In-Season Charter Flights

Many of the holiday companies that offer package holidays to the island during the summer season also offer flight only options. Airtours, Manos, Argo Holidays, Direct Holidays, Going Places, My Travel, Thomas Cook and Olympic Holidays all offer holiday / flight options for the island. Tickets may not necessarily be available on every flight and can vary dramatically in price depending upon availability and time of booking. Thomson Flights (part of TUI) is a long standing carrier from the UK to Crete in the summer season and you may check availability and book tickets at their website. They also offer the convenience of being able to book one way or return tickets online FROM Heraklion rather than UK airports, a useful facility for Crete residents wishing to visit the UK.
