West Crete
West Crete contains the two largest towns after the capital of the island, Iraklio. Chania the eponymous prefecture capital and Rethymno, also capital of the prefecture of the same name both lie in the western part of the island. With Souda bay on the northern coast, the stunning Samaria gorge running to the southern coast of the Libyan sea, Kisammos to the far west and the imposing mountains inland, west Crete is a sun seeking adventurer's paradise
